VIDEONALE EST. 1984

The Videonale association was founded in 1984 by three enthusiastic students, who created the VIDEONALE festival as the first platform in Germany for video art, an art form that was still quite unknown at the time.

Since then, the VIDEONALE has taken place every two years, constantly evolving along with its medium and the artists, and today takes place as an exhibition with a diverse festival program at the Kunstmuseum Bonn.

In addition to the VIDEONALE festival, we realize various event formats throughout the year, such as workshops, film series, lectures, and document the artistic positions of the festival editions in our Online Videoarchive.

FESTIVAL & EXHIBITION

The Videonale is one of the oldest festivals for video art and time-based art worldwide and has been taking place in Bonn for almost 40 years.

We see ourselves as a platform for artists, whom we want to bring into an intensive exchange with each other, with our audience and with an expert audience; for the audience, whom we want to acquaint with the diverse forms of expression and themes of video art; for an expert audience, who would like to discover new artistic positions at the Videonale and participate in the discussion of current and future issues together with the artists and us.
